Sports Injury Rehab in Lower Sackville
Getting out of pain is the easy part. Getting back on the field, the trail or the ice with confidence that it will hold up is the part most people skip, and it is the part we build the whole plan around.
What sports injury rehab involves
Sports rehabilitation is physiotherapy built around a specific goal: returning to your sport at the level you played before, with less risk of it happening again.
The plan is built around your season, your position and your training schedule. Rehab for someone who runs half marathons looks nothing like rehab for a hockey player, and neither looks like a generic exercise sheet.
Sports injuries we treat
- Ankle sprains and repeated ankle instability
- Knee injuries, including ACL and MCL sprains, meniscus irritation and runner’s knee
- Hamstring, quad and calf strains
- Shoulder injuries, including rotator cuff strains and throwing shoulder pain
- Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
- Achilles tendon pain and shin splints
- Groin and hip flexor strains
- Low back pain from lifting and rotational sports
- Overuse injuries from training load errors
How we get you back
Settle it down. First we calm the pain and swelling and protect the injury, while keeping you moving in every way that is safe. Complete rest is rarely the answer.
Rebuild the basics. Range of motion, then strength, then control. This is where hands-on treatment, dry needling and massage can speed things along when they are useful.
Load it like your sport does. Sprinting, cutting, jumping, throwing, lifting. Whatever your sport asks for, we build up to it in the clinic before you meet it in a game.
Return with a plan. We tell you what you are ready for and what to watch for, and we give you the work that keeps the injury from returning next season.
What to expect at your first visit
Your first appointment is a full assessment. We want to know what happened, what you have tried, what your season looks like and what you are aiming to get back to. From there you get a clear explanation of what is going on and a realistic timeline, not a vague one.
Treatment usually starts the same visit, and you will leave with something to do between appointments. Rehab that lives only inside the clinic does not work.
Sport comes straight into the treatment room here. Alex Barrett has trained in sports medicine through Harvard and in running injuries through The Running Clinic, alongside manual therapy and movement optimisation.
Coverage and billing
No referral is needed to see a physiotherapist in Nova Scotia, so you can book directly and start rehab right away. Physiotherapy is covered under most extended health plans, and we direct bill most insurance companies. We also treat injuries covered by motor vehicle accident and workplace claims, so if you were hurt in a car accident or on the job, we can look after that too. If you are not sure where you stand, call us and we will help you check.
Why athletes choose Radius
You see the same physiotherapist through your whole rehab, which matters more than people realise. Progress in sport rehab is measured against where you were three weeks ago, and that only works when someone actually remembers. Add massage therapy, dry needling and acupuncture in the same clinic, and we can pull in whatever helps you get back sooner.
We will also be straight with you about timelines. If six weeks is not realistic, we will say so.
Common questions
How soon after an injury should I come in? Sooner is better. Early assessment tells you what you are dealing with and stops you from resting an injury that needs loading, or loading one that needs rest.
Do I need a referral? No. Physiotherapy is direct access in Nova Scotia.
Can I keep training while I rehab? Usually yes, with modifications. We will show you what you can keep doing rather than shutting everything down.
How long will it take? It depends on the injury and how long it has been going on. You will get an honest estimate at your first visit and we will update it as you progress.
