Radius Physiotherapy

Massage Therapy in Lower Sackville

Massage therapy here is clinical rather than spa. Our registered massage therapists work on the tension, stiffness and pain that come from how you sit, how you train and old injuries that never quite settled. No referral is needed, most extended health plans cover it, and we direct bill.

The kinds of massage we offer

  • Deep tissue massage. Slower strokes and firmer, focused pressure into the deeper layers, for tension a lighter massage does not reach.
  • Lymphedema care and manual lymph drainage. A completely different technique, deliberately very light, for swelling and lymphatic congestion. Delivered by a certified Complete Decongestive Therapist.
  • Relaxation and general therapeutic massage. Booked the same way as any other massage. Tell your therapist what you want out of the session and they will build the treatment around it.

How to book the right one

There is one massage booking type, at 30, 60 or 90 minutes. You do not book deep tissue separately. Book a massage and tell your therapist what you are after when you arrive, and they will work at a pressure that suits you.

Lymphedema care is the exception. Complete Decongestive Therapy and Manual Lymph Drainage are booked as their own appointments, because they are a different treatment rather than a different pressure.

What massage therapy can help with

  • Neck, shoulder and upper back tension
  • Low back pain and hip tightness
  • Postural strain from desk work and driving
  • Recovery from training and heavy workloads
  • Tension headaches
  • Restricted movement from scar tissue and old injuries
  • Swelling and lymphatic congestion
  • General muscle tension and stress

Who you will see

Massage therapy at Radius is provided by registered massage therapists. Chloé Hemenway works with fascia-focused techniques and therapeutic cupping, has a particular interest in chronic tension through the neck and upper body, and is a certified Complete Decongestive Therapist, having completed all three levels of the Vodder School program.

Why book massage at Radius

A lot of tightness is a symptom of something else: how you move, how you sit, an old injury that never fully rehabbed. Because our massage therapists work alongside physiotherapists and an acupuncturist under one roof, we can look at the whole picture and combine treatments when that gets you further. If your therapist thinks physiotherapy would help the underlying cause, they will say so.

Coverage and billing

Massage therapy with a registered massage therapist is covered under most extended health plans in Nova Scotia, and no referral is needed to book. We direct bill most insurance companies, so in most cases you pay only your portion at the end of the appointment. If you are unsure what your plan covers, call us and we will help you check before you book.

Common questions

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly with one of our registered massage therapists. Some insurance plans ask for one before they will reimburse, so check your own policy.

Is massage therapy covered by insurance?

Under most extended health plans in Nova Scotia, yes, and we direct bill most companies so you usually pay only your portion.

How firm will the pressure be?

Whatever suits you. Pressure is a conversation, not a test, and you can ask your therapist to ease off at any point.

How often should I come in?

It depends on the problem. Your therapist will give you an honest recommendation rather than a package you do not need.

Can I book in the evening?

The clinic is open until 8 p.m. Monday to Friday. Evening massage availability depends on which therapist you book, so have a look at the online schedule.
